Russell's books make me feel stupid, Rutherford's books make me sick, Franz's books are irrelevant in every way, wts books after them I know too well. So I decided to keep Russell's six books at hand, for a healthy experience every now and then. -

1914—The Turning Point in History - Really?
by berrygerry in1914the turning point in history.
30 from the human standpoint, the world troubles and global wars foretold in the bible were far from the thinking of the pre-1914 world.

WW2 seems to have been a more important turning point than WW1 in determining what the world was going to look like for a long time,. As a conflict WW2 was a really global one. It was the beginning of the Eastern bloc in Europe and of the nuclear threat. The collapse of the Eastern block was another big turning point, including the quite peaceful retirement of the "King of North. The WT socitey was, of course, unable to "foretell" these, as it had been in foretelling what actualy happend in 1914.

When I was young, the WT society supported (a little green book) the "water-canopy theory", a version where the water needed for the flood had been in the atmosphere. I wonder if they have cancelled that teaching or just decided to forget it.
It was argued that high enough in the atmosphere there are conditions suitable for water to exist in vapor phase. One of my first enlightments concerning the authority of the WT was related to this argument. First, if you add so much water in the atmosphere, it is no more the same atmosphere, so there is no point in referring to the conditions now. Second, related, if there were enough vapor to correspond to, say, one kilometer deep layer of liquid water on the surface of the earth, that would make the air pressure down here a hundred times larger.

Evolution and Creation—both are stories!
by lsw1961 inthere are number of nobel laureates and other great scientists in both the camps defending their respective theories of evolution and creation, which means both are just stories, and both suffer from having no eye-witnesses.
if either of them were true, all scientists would have accepted it unanimously as they do with rest of the laws such as law of gravity..
this does not mean that there is no god.

If a "story" is something with no hard evidence or something not requiring evidence, then there is a clear differece between creation, for example the ID version, and evolution. If you have an opportunity to visit the science library of a major research university, do that. The evidence for evolution and its confirmed details (new research articles every day) is massive, literally millions of pages. In recent research, for example, the connection between microevolution and macroevolution (check you understand these basic concepts) is studied in controlled laboratory environments. More than a story, that is. -

83,000 theocratic facilites?
by average joe ina bethelite was telling me that there are 83,000 theocratic facilities world wide.
he compared that to 35,000 mcdonalds and 21,000 starbucks roughly to show the size of the theocratic organization.
i am not sure where the 83,000 comes from what would he be counting?

Comparing "kingdom" halls and McDonalds "restaurants", the quality of the spiritual or whatever food they serve is comparable. Bad for your health, not worth of your money, in reality not even looking as was advertised, eventually making you feel deceived, etc. -

Love the (original) painting by Munch, seen it in Oslo. First felt the "new world version" with Lett's face on it found by Splash to be more scary, then understood he deserves the pain.

Are the horrendous killings in Paris part of a religious practice?
by clarity inislam is a religion of war, not a religion of peace .
seems there are many religions who do not tolerate other groups.
this statement "islam is a religion of war, not a religion of peace" reminded me of what was said at a watchtower convention in 2013 ....using a chilling example of how they condone dis fellowshipping & the soul killing practice of shunning!

Many religions, not just Islam, and many holy books, not just the Quran, allow extreme interpretations, the easier the more the meaning of those books needs to be interpreted by a small group or class of "learned" individuals, with free discussion restricted or banned. The Spanish Inquisition is a horrifying example of that. Now there is a heated discussion on who to blame for what happened in Paris. However, to prepare a fertile ground for Isis was started, when the nation of Israel was created in 1948 and ever since Israel has had an unreserved support for whatever they do from American christian extremists.
Somehow all this sounds too familiar.

This world is now not only much better for us to live in than just before 1975, it is also much more stable, thanks to global connectedness. It is better to build life for yourself and for your children in this "old system of things", insted of the "new" one that also by looking at the "signs of times" clearly is escaping from us faster than ever. -

Which bible character do you hate the most?
by Bonsai inthe more i think about it, the more i feel an extreme dislike for the apostle paul.
he was on par with hitler in his treatment of the jews before he "saw the light".
he replaced jesus teachings of love and mercy with a more legalistic, pharisaical concept of devotion to god.. any evil person can come to believe in god and worship him if the scales were literally and miraculously removed from his eyes.

Jehovah (NWT) is. For his numerous, brutal crimes against humanity, all those supposedly because of his... name. -

I find fascinating an idea of a God, who asked his People to go to war to complete his already large collection of foreskins. Like collecting stamps.
